Morrow Batteries joins UN Global Compact
By joining UN Global Compact, the world's largest corporate sustainability initiative, Morrow Batteries is demonstrating its commitment to accelerating the green energy transition.

UN Global Compact is the world's largest corporate sustainability initiative, with over 14 000 companies in 162 countries. The initiative aims to mobilize a global movement of sustainable companies and stakeholders to create a better world, based on the UN Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs).

Addressing the biggest industrial challengesIn Southern Norway, Morrow is in process to build its Giga battery cell factory (42 GWh), with additional infrastructure such as R&D and pilot facilities. With unique access to renewable hydropower and long material and chemical industrial traditions, Morrow aims to develop an emission-free battery value chain for the European market; The Battery Coast.
“We have an strategic and holistic approach to the battery value chain, and together with partners, we are pursuing sustainability in every step. From mining materials to high volume manufacturing, says Pål Brun, Board member and EVP Sustainability and Finance of Morrow Batteries. “Our development of cobolt-free batteries will greatly reduce the industry dependence on Nickel and completely eliminate cobalt from the battery value chain. Addressing some of the biggest social- and environmental challenges in the industry”.
Morrow Batteries was recently awarded NOK 25 million from Innovation Norway to develop cobolt-free batteries towards pilot production, based on LNMO-technology (Lithium-nickel-manganese oxide). This will be an industrial breakthrough, both in terms of cost reduction, energy density and social- and environmental aspects.

By using the SDG compass, Morrow has already identified the following SDGs in battery value chain; Number 7, 8, 9, 12 and 13.
