Morrow Batteries to start operations through Eydehavn port

“We are teaming up with an innovative and flexible agent. Rhenus Norway has developed a solution combining sea freight, integrated European locations handling and last mile services in Arendal, tailored for this highly demanding logistics project,” says CEO Lars Christian Bacher of Morrow.

“The agreement includes the establishment of a new logistics hub, which would not have been possible without the support from the Port of Arendal. Our close cooperation with the port authorities is essential for our business success“, he adds.

The agreement includes the first five hundred containers of production equipment through the Port of Arendal. With forty-foot containers, this entails a total volume to some 12 000 pallet equivalents. Rhenus Norway will establish a container handling and warehousing operation at Eydehavn in cooperation with the port authorities.

Eydehavn will now become an important hub for all types of goods, centrally located between Grenland/Larvik, and Kristiansand with weekly sailings to the Continent. In the future, this will give Arendal sea access to the 18 port terminals we operate with distribution across Europe", says managing director Bent Thomasen of Rhenus Norway.

The Port of Arendal is a municipal enterprise. The port moved out of the city center to the industrial site of Eydehavn in 2008.

Effective handling, low costs and a customer centric culture has given us a significant increase in flow of goods these past years. An effective container and Ro-Ro terminal at Eydehavn will give both Morrow and other businesses cost and sustainability advantages”, says Rune Hvass, Harbor Master at Port of Arendal.

Eydehavn is a deep-water port close to existing maritime routes and has the region’s largest and most efficient crane. The port has enjoyed strong cargo growth, particularly within dry bulk goods. The port will expand to be able to service container and Ro-Ro tonnage from 2023.
